Thursday’s Special: Flag of Protest

M. James Thompson

One Fine Adventure: Taksim, Istanbul, Turkey

This image was captured from the roof of a now closed hostel in the Taksim neighborhood of Istanbul. Kurdish refugees openly protested and rioted against the Turkish government and police. I was fortunate enough to land in a hostel at the center of the riots and throughout my week in the city I followed the people as they moved through Taksim. Several Syrian refugees invited my friend and I into their restaurant and talked openly about their feelings regarding Turkey, Islamic State and the fighting in Kobani.

A big thanks to Paula at Lost in Translation for her Thursday’s Non-Challenge

I am openly appealing to anyone who might be interested in printing and displaying my images.
