Weekly Photo Contest: Eerie

This is one of the most powerful photographs that I captured in Kathmandu and it has found it’s way into my posts several times. The mountains, valleys, colors and festivals are all emotionally stirring sites to behold, but the poverty and desperation of the street children living in the alleys and on the sidewalks throughout the city becomes emotionally oppressive. The crushing reality that without government assistance on a massive scale these children will most likely not make it to adulthood is prevalent outside of high-end trekking gear stores and upscale tourist restaurants.

  1. I can barely tear myself away from this picture — everything from his cheeky grin to the scars on his arms; the mood you’ve captured is superb, and your accompanying words are precise and heartfelt. Great shot.
