Kathmandu was my home away from home for four weeks in 2013 and every home deserves a good local bar. This was mine. Like any good local bar the name was not important, mostly because I can’t remember or pronounce it, but the memories are easy to remember. Finding some solace in conversations with other westerners was a nice change from the broken conversations and my terrible Nepali.
Smoking indoors, loud music, random conversations with new and interesting people were the bars highlights. There’s something incredible about getting the chance feel at home half-way around the world. Thamel was an interesting place, but after late at night set in and the streets were clear of merchants it took on a new character. It also became much harder to find my way home without the regular landmarks. The night took a turn after the fifth beer and kept turning after some Nepali whiskey, but that is a story for another time.
